Computers And Technology Is Making The World Go Round

Computers and technology are making the world go round. The reliance on networks and connectivity are vital to most corporation’s livelihoods and individual’s home lives. Threats to these environments continue to place unnecessary stress and financial strain on business and personal users. Securing networks is difficult since the attacker has ample time to plan and execute an attack, while the defender has time constraints to prepare and fight back (Beznosov and Chess, 2008). Firewalls and VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) provide exceptional barriers to threats when users and IT professionals take pride in configuring these devices/software with strict protocols. Mayer, Wooi and Ziskind (2006) stress, â€Å"The single most important factor in your firewalls security is how you configure it.† The same is true for VPN configurations. Knowledge of preventative measures and taking appropriate actions can ease the burden of network security and increase the avoid ance of threats and attacks. Session Hijacking Session hijacking is one of the more challenging attacks to detect. The attempts to defend a session against hijacking can be difficult as the attack normally considered â€Å"sneaky.† In order for a session hijacking to occur, a state must be established between two or more devices.
